Welcome to HIPICO Santa Fe, New Mexico’s premier venue for equestrian events and a shining star in the Southwest’s horse show circuit. HIPICO Santa Fe is located in the world-class tourist destination city of Santa Fe and just 3 miles from the Santa Fe Airport.

It is also home to the New Mexico Center for Therapeutic Riding, a community-based nonprofit that enriches and expands the lives of Northern New Mexico children, youth, and adults with special needs through equine-assisted activities and therapies.

On the heels of a banner inaugural year, HIPICO Santa Fe’s 2019 show seasons include A-Rated dressage competition and 3 weeks of hunter/jumper competition from July through August encompassing the A-rated, Santa Fe Summer Series. Equestrians and Equine athletes from throughout the US, Canada, Mexico and Europe travel to Santa Fe to compete in hunter/jumper competitions, including an International Hunter Derby, weekly Welcome Stakes, and multiple Grands Prix classes with up to $50,000 in prize money.

HIPICO Santa Fe is home to The Grand Prix de Santa Fe, a nonprofit dedicated to supporting, advancing and showcasing the equestrian community of New Mexico. Since it’s inception in 2004, the Grand Prix de Santa Fe has generated more than $150,000 for local and regional nonprofit organizations serving at-risk children and equines, as well as land and cultural preservation. In its fifth season at HIPICO Santa Fe, the $50,000 Grand Prix de Santa Fe will take place in August 2019.

The 137-acre, full service equestrian facility features an indoor arena, enhanced, all-weather footing in competition arenas, including additional grass rings for the 2016 show season, spacious, comfortable barns with permanent 12×12 stalls, designated horse-only bridle paths, a clubhouse and miles of trail riding on adjacent public lands.

WHO WE ARE

Brian K. Gonzales

Brian co-founded the Caza Ladron Hunt in 1999 and the Grand Prix de Santa Fe in 2004, with his friend and business partner, Guy McElvain. A lifelong horseman, 18th generation New Mexican and successful businessman, Brian brings both equine and business acumen to the HIPICO Santa Fe operation. Brian has a deep devotion to New Mexico and the Santa Fe community. His family has been involved with ranching, farming and raising horses for centuries in Northern New Mexico. Brian is president and owner of Financial Concepts, LLC, specializing in employee benefits development and management. He has been a Financial Representative of Northwestern Mutual since May 1985, specializing in business, estate and investment planning.

Phyllis Mooney Gonzales

Phyllis has been president of the Grand Prix de Santa Fe, a 501(c)3, for eight years. A clinical social worker, she has served on a number of non-profit boards since moving to Santa Fe from New York in 1993, including Big Brothers Big Sisters Mountain Region and Santa Fe Waldorf School. She has many years of experience in event management and with running an A-rated circuit show. Phyllis and Brian have two boys, Matias and Andres, who attend the Santa Fe Waldorf School.

Guy McElvain

Guy McElvain has been involved with horses his entire life. He grew up in a prominent New Mexico horse family, which ran Rancho La Querencia in Lemitar, New Mexico. Guy began show jumping in 1995 and entered his first Grand Prix competition in 2001. Guy is also president and CEO of McElvain Energy Inc, in Denver, Colo., also a family-owned business. Guy co-founded the Caza Ladron foxhunt club in 1999 and co-founded the Grand Prix de Santa Fe in 2004.

Guy is highly involved in the horse industry, serving his fourth term on the Board of the American Holsteiner Horse Association as Vice President, serving on the USHJA Jumper Working Group, and served on the USHJA (United States Hunter Jumper Association) Zone 8 Jumper Committee. Guy was Chef D’Equipe (team manager) for The North American Young Riders Championships (NAYRC), Zone 8. Guy and his wife Sharon continue the family legacy of breeding champion Holsteiners at Rancho Corazon in Lemitar, NM, and competing across the country. They have built their farm into a first class breeding, training, sales and foal management facility. They have two children, Chenoa, a grand prix rider in her own right, and Clayton, a geology student at New Mexico Institute of Science and Technology.
