Dear HIPICO Family,
We are profoundly disappointed to announce that the State of New Mexico will not allow our 2020 Santa Fe Summer Series to take place. While we had received positive feedback from government officials in recent weeks about our site-specific COVID-19 Safe Practices Plan, we were informed today that our event will not be approved.
Our team worked diligently this past year to prepare for our Summer Series and we were not deterred from our efforts when the COVID-19 pandemic began. As a low-risk event for transmission of the virus, according to the World Health Organization Risk Assessment for Sporting Events, we crafted a COVID-19 Safe Practices (SP) Plan that addressed all areas of competition, stabling, RV park and show office spaces using the strategies recommended by the CDC and required by USEF. We have been persistent in our outreach to our state government, made changes to our COVID-19 SP Plan based on feedback from local and state government officials and believed we were on track for approval. At all times, we have been transparent about our event and site in order to secure the confidence of the state government. We are confident our plan would have allowed for a safe and successful competition.
We are sorry to inform our HIPICO family of this unfortunate outcome. We know the effort required by all who attend and work at horse shows and that this news will have consequences for everyone involved.
All RV online payments have been refunded and customers will see a credit back to their credit card within 5-10 business days. All stall, entry and RV checks will be shredded and any credit card numbers provided through HorseShowsOnline.com or Equestrian Connect will be deleted along with the associated entries.
HIPICO Santa Fe will explore strategies to make the most of our summer and will continue to serve as the venue for other smaller events coming up in the summer and fall. As always, we will provide ongoing updates about the status of all scheduled events on our website calendar and Facebook page. The organizers of Split Rock Jumping Tour Santa Fe International CSI2*, scheduled for August 12-16, are reviewing the situation in New Mexico and will be making a determination about their show in the near future.
Thank you again for your efforts and planning and for your support in this endeavor. We appreciate all of you and we look forward to seeing you on the grass for the 2021 Santa Fe Summer Series.
With gratitude,
The McElvain and Gonzales Families
